First EE Session in Gangolli

Basu and Ferdi conducting an energizer with the kids (8th standard)
On August 31st we conducted the first Environmental Education school session of 2012 in Gangolli, about 10km north of Kundapura. Our team consisted of two volunteers and the coordinator Basavaraj.
Since the village is dealing with many ecological problems, including severe ground & water pollution, we focused on spreading very basic environmental awareness. 36 Students (boys and girls) attended. The session covered several topics: we started with a definition of the word environment and tried to explain how dependent we are on our natural resources. We then asked the kids how they usually get rid of their waste (e.g. burning / throwing it outside) and told them about waste segregation and recycling. Finally we presented the already working German waste management system. Through this, we hope to diminish the problems caused by waste pollution in Gangolli.
