Azolla demonstration cum cultivation at Marvante

On 27.1.14 HBP Kundapur guided a farmer at Marvanthe to prepare an Azolla cultivation pit. Azolla is an algae species grow over the water without any feeding and provides value addition to the milking quantity & fat content in the cattle milk. One month before we did demonstrative activity in plastic sheet by placing Azolla in a small way and explained farmer about its utility.

After one month farmer Mr. Shankar could see the increase in milking quantity and Fat content 4.5 to 5.6 in lactometer as measured at Dairy. This resulted in establishing big azolla structure on his own cost in his farm land. This is the replication of azolla demonstration activity under Environmental Education Project.

                               

He is a member of Dairy cooperative society of Marvanthe and his wife is Director of this society, they became model for other dairy farmers to cultivate this species in order to reduce their drudgery on usual cattle feeds and increase in livelihood.
